Local Vet Reflects on Pearl Harbor Attack

CHARLOTTE, NC — A local veteran is talking to WCCB Charlotte about the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Monday marked 74 years since Japan’s navy and air force launched a surprise attack at the Hawaiian naval base. More than 2,400 Americans were killed.

World War II veteran William Luke says he remembers exactly where he was when the attack happened.

“We were out in the front yard playing football,” said Luke. “A neighbor came over to see my dad. He was telling him that he heard a report that Pearl Harbor was taken by the Japanese, and that’s what happened.”

Luke also talked about how he was drafted following the attacks, and how the bombings at Pearl Harbor brought the country together.
