Cornelius Police Search for Suspect in Armed Robbery

CORNELIUS, N.C. — Cornelius police are searching for a suspect after an attempted armed robbery Thursday night.

The incident happened around 6:45 p.m., when a black male wearing a black jacket and black knit cap approached the victim while he was attempting to pump gas into his vehicle at the Citgo Gas Station on Catawba Avenue.

The suspect  pointed a small handgun at the victim and demanded his money. He then punched the victim on both sides of his face and the stomach, at which time the victim screamed for help.

A person nearby heard the victim calling for help and intervened. In doing so, that person, who was armed with a handgun, fired one shot at the suspect, who then fled the area on foot. It is unknown if the suspect was struck.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid to late 20’s approximately 5’9″-6’0″. He was wearing a white shirt, dark shorts, black shoes, and a black backpack.
