Meck. Co. Offers Active Shooter Training

CHARLOTTE, NC — The San Bernardino shootings are prompting Mecklenburg County to offer active shooting training for all 5,300 county employees.

County Manager Dena Diorio says some departments have gone through the training in the past, but the majority of county employees haven’t. Employees who talked to us say they are glad the county is being pro-active.

“I’d like to think that I’m safe at work,” said county employee Maryjean Davidson. “I feel safe here, but there’s no telling what could ever happen.”

The training should be complete within the next three to six weeks. The county has also budgeted $130,000 in extra security at county facilities.
