UPDATE: AP — Police are pressing criminal charges against a man who jumped the perimeter fence at Charlotte Douglas International Airport with a weapon.
Multiple media organizations report that 36-year-old Jovany Castillo Lugo is charged with trespassing on airport property and carrying a concealed weapon.
Officials say Lugo showed up in an airport concourse early Friday and told officials he had been shot at by two people. Lugo said he climbed the fence to get away from the shooters. Police said Lugo was not shot.
Officers found him carrying a box cutter.
Investigators interviewed his female companion, who told police the pair had used drugs earlier in the day and went to the airport to catch a flight to Texas.
CHARLOTTE, NC– Detectives say they arrested a man Friday after trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Early Friday morning, Airport Division officers say they received a call that a subject identified as Jovany Castillo Lugo, was inside the concourse and had been shot at by two suspects.
Lugo reportedly told officers that he had climbed the fence to get away from two suspects shooting at him and injured his hand.
After being transported to CMC Main, officers spoke to a female companion of Lugo who told police that he had been using drugs earlier in the day and came to the airport to get a flight to Texas.
The female said after walking around the perimeter of the airport, Lugo jumped the fence and police determined that no one actually shot at him.
Lugo was released from the hospital and charged with trespassing on airport property and carrying a concealed weapon.
