Driver has ‘medical episode’ before deadly wreck

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a fatal crash in the University area Saturday afternoon.

According to police, Angel Adams was driving a 2014 Honda Accord eastbound in the 1200 block of East WT Harris Boulevard around 2:52 p.m. Saturday, when she experienced a medical episode.  Adams struck a 2002 Honda Accord in the rear right corner, causing minor damage.police-lights43.jpg

Then, police say, Adams’ car went off the right side of the road striking several street signs and utility poles.  The car flipped several times before coming to a stop.

The rear passenger, 71-year-old Betty Adams was ejected from the car and pronounced deceased on the scene.

Angel Adams and the front passenger both sustained minor injuries and were taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Police say that the front and rear passengers made attempts to gain control of the vehicle before it crashed.

Speed is a factor in the crash.  Angel Adams and the front passenger were wearing seat belts, but Betty Adams was not, according to police.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  Any witnesses are being asked to call Major Crash Detective Kevin Allred at (704) 336-8862.
