Sci-Fi, action and blockbuster movie fans alike are being spoiled this week. Yesterday saw the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer premiere during Sunday afternoon football and today we get our first look of Star Trek Beyond, the third film since director J.J. Abrams rebooted the franchise in 2009 with a new, younger cast. Oh and there’s that other pretty well known sci-fi movie that’s set to steamroll box offices around the world, when Star Wars The Force Awakens opens later this week, also courtesy of J.J. Abrams. The Star Trek Beyond trailer was set to debut ahead of Star Wars The Force Awakens but as is usually the case, the internet get’s it first.
J.J. Abrams also directed 2012’s Star Trek Into Darkness but Star Trek Beyond, set to open July 22, 2016, is directed by Justin Lin. This is Justin Lin’s first major movie since directing the second trio of Fast and Furious films; Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013).
