HP Launches Sober or Slammer Campaign

YORK COUNTY, SC — A record number of Carolinians will hit the roads over the Christmas holiday. AAA expects more than 100 million people to travel nationwide.

And just in time for the season, South Carolina Highway Patrol has launched its annual “Sober or Slammer” campaign. Troopers say alcohol-related deaths make up 43 percent of traffic deaths in the state.

“The public should be prepared to encounter public safety checkpoints through the new year,” says Col. Mike Oliver of the SCHP. “Last year 24,000 were arrested for DUI in South Carolina. ”

You’ll see reminders about the campaign on electronic message boards across state highways.
