Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting In Gaston County

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in Gaston County.

Dallas Police say they received a call from Ingles around 12 p.m. about three suspects attempting to pass fraudulent checks.

The two individuals inside the store were apprehended and charged with felonious check fraud.

While one officer was inside the store, a second officer outside observed a suspect vehicle previously involved in similar crimes.

The second officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect failed to stop. During a brief pursuit, the suspect wrecked at Hardin Road and Highway 321.

As officers approached the vehicle, the suspect struck one patrol vehicle and an officer discharged his firearm during the encounter. The suspect continued North on Highway 321.

The suspect then wrecked a second time, approximately 1 mile north of Hardin Road. Officers approached the suspect vehicle and found him unresponsive.

Officers removed the suspect from the vehicle and rendered aid. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.

At this time the north bound lane of US 321 from Dallas, N.C. to north of Hardin Road is shut down due to ongoing police investigation.

All north bound traffic on US 321 has been rerouted through Dallas to Old US 321, resulting in heavy traffic congestion. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes if at all possible.
