NCDOT Workers Rescue Boy on I-77

CHARLOTTE, NC — A 12-year-old boy is alive thanks to an NC DOT worker who spotted the boy riding his bike on I-77.

DOT workers watched the boy on traffic cameras and called for help. A safety patrol driver was the first to arrive, and saw the boy nearly get hit by an 18-wheeler.

“They were able to direct him to where the kid was,” said NC DOT spokesman Timothy Kirk. “Luckily he was able to locate the youth and run out and snatch him out of the roadway.”

The boy said he was running away from home. He’s since been returned to his family.
