Islamic Calligraphy Lesson Angers Parents

All public schools in Augusta County, Virginia were closed Friday after a teacher handed out a handwriting assignment dealing with Islam. It required students to practice their calligraphy skills by copying the Islamic statement of faith, written in Arabic. The students were never asked to translate the phrase, recite it or adopt it as a personal belief. But was it a good idea?
