Elf on a Shelf Prompts 911 Call

OLD BRIDGE, NJ / AP — Kids love the Elf on a Shelf, and they know the rules about the Christmas tradition.

7-year-old Isabelle from New Jersey panicked after she touched her elf, and called 911 for help. In the popular holiday book, the elf loses its magic if it is touched or moved, and she worried her actions might not sit well with Santa.

“I was nervous,” said Isabelle. “I was really scared. I thought Santa wasn’t going to come.”

“She thought she killed the elf, or the elf was injured,” said her mother. “And Santa would be upset, and Santa wouldn’t come.”

Police are legally required to investigate emergency calls, so despite Isabelle asking them to not come out, an officer did show up at her home.
