Road Washes Away, Traps Residents

KING’S MOUNTAIN, NC — More than half a dozen families couldn’t get out of their neighborhood Thursday night. A big chunk of Brook Forest Drive collapsed under Wednesday night’s intense rains.

That’s just off El Bethel Road in Kings Mountain. It’s the only way in and out of the neighborhood.

Neighbors are coming together to do some of the work to repair the massive ten foot hole. Hal Hudson is offering to pick up food or run errands for people until the road is passable again.

“Nobody’s got no way of getting out, going to the grocery store,” said Hudson. “If we have a fire or an ambulance in here, they’d have to stop here, the fire truck and ambulance would have to carry people across the creek if somebody here got seriously ill.”

Brook Forest Drive is private, so neighbors have to pay for repairs. A GoFundMe account has been set up if you’d like to make a donation.
