MINT HILL, N.C.– Police have a man in custody after a SWAT standoff at a Mint Hill apartment complex.
Mint Hill Police were called to the 4500 block of Stoney Trace Drive around 3 a.m. Saturday after a woman called 911 crying and hung up.
As the first officer on scene approached the apartment building he was shot at. Officers who arrived on scene soon after also were shot at.
According to police, a Mint Hill officer was able to return one shot, but did not strike the suspect.
Police then retreated and set up a perimeter. They say the suspect would periodically fire shots toward the officers but no officers were injured.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department assisted with the incident and activated their swat team. A CMPD negotiator convinced the suspect to surrender.
Police say no one was injured in the incident.
Police arrested 41-year-old Edward wold Jr. and he is charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon and felony attempted first degree murder.
The incident is still under investigation and the SBI has been called to assist.
