CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for a vehicle involved in a hit and run that left a woman with critical injuries.
Investigators say a woman was attempting to cross the street on Yorkmont Road Tuesday night when she was struck by a vehicle.
Witnesses told police the driver of the vehicle backed up to see what they hit, once they realized it was a person the driver is accused of leaving the scene.
Witnesses believe the vehicle was a newer model, small size SUV that was either a Nissan or Mazda. The vehicle also had tinted windows.
Detectives are reviewing video footage from surrounding areas looking for the vehicle. Police believe the SUV will have damage to the front center of the vehicle.

The victim is a 39-year-old woman. Police have not released her identity at this time. The woman is in critical condition.
