Next-Gen Tech Comes to Charlotte-Douglas

CHARLOTTE, NC — The next generation in technology is coming to Charlotte-Douglas Airport’s control tower, and it could save you money.

Friday, the FAA announced its plan to modernize the nation’s air traffic control system, starting in Charlotte. Officials say the next-gen program will make Charlotte flights safer, more efficient and greener, without a bigger price tag.

“There’s no airport charge for what we’re doing here. This is more about the national airspace system,” said one official.

Officials say flights will be more efficient by spending less time in the air and taxiing on the runway.
