Gibbs and Late Run Lift Davidson Over Mason, 81-75

Davidson improves to 2-1 in A10 play with home victory.

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to Jack Gibbs scoring a game-high 26 points and handing out 7 assists, Davidson drilled 12 3-pointers as the Wildcats defeated George Mason, 81-75, in Atlantic 10 men’s basketball action Saturday evening.

Peyton Aldridge and Brian Sullivan also scored in double figures for Davidson (10-4, 2-1 A-10) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Sullivan, who recorded his 1,000th career point in the ‘Cats’ win over the Patriots last season, scored his 1000th point in a Davidson uniform midway through the opening period.

Trailing 71-70, Davidson took the lead for good on a Gibbs’ 3-point play and Aldridge triple from the corner with 44 seconds remaining. During their game-changing run, the Wildcats held Mason without a field goal for 5 minutes and 20 seconds.

Davidson finished with 19 assists and a season-low 3 turnovers.

After the Patriots opened the second period on an 18-2 streak to take their largest lead, 58-47, Davidson scored 13 of the next 14 points to go back in front, 60-59, on a Jordan Watkins’ reverse layup.

JalenJenkins paced four Patriots in double digits with 20 points and 9 rebounds,while going 9-of-12 from the floor off the bench. Marquise Moore added 15 points, Jaire Grayer had 12 and Otis Livingston finished with 11 for Mason,which shot 48.4 percent.

With just under 3 minutes to play in the first half, Rusty Reigel capped off a 10-4 spurt with a 3-pointer to put the Wildcats up, 42-34. George Mason (6-10, 0-3 A-10) responded with a small run of its own to cut the deficit to 45-40 at the break.

Despite the loss, Mason held a 46-29 advantage on the glass.

Following a 52.8 percent clip in the first 20 minutes, the Wildcats shot 35.5 percent after intermission to finish at 44.8 percent overall.
