The victims say that a white female with a baseball cap and an unknown identification badge came to their door, on January 7, claiming  to be a representative of Duke Energy.  She entered the home and spoke to the homeowners about proposed plans Duke Energy had to develop land and build a new school behind their residence.

The suspect and the victims walked to the rear of the property where the suspect was in communication with two males via two way radio. The victims think that someone entered the home at that time and removed the safe.

The victims did not notice anything missing until January 9, 2016 and they then reported the events to police. The safe was described as two feet square and between 150 and 200 pounds, with a digital key pad.

The Duke Energy website states that occasionally employees or authorized contractors will be sent to your home to perform service. The site advises that residents ask for identification and call contact Duke Energy if they question the legitimacy of a visit.
