Officers Meet with Residents at ‘Coffee with a Cop’
LOCUST, NC — The Officer Jeff Shelton Foundation hosted “Coffee with a Cop” Thursday night. It brought law enforcement officers in Stanly County together to meet with residents.
The event was held at the Mission Baptist Church fellowship hall in Locust. Officers got the chance to visit with their colleagues, residents asked questions, and:
“They get to see them in a different light,” said Jennifer Shelton of the OJSF. “A lot of the time people see law enforcement when they call 911 or they get pulled over. Here they get to come out and meet the people behind the badge, the people on the streets every day.”
Jennifer Shelton’s husband, Jeff Shelton, was a CMPD officer who was murdered while on duty in 2007. She hopes to hold this “Coffee with a Cop” event four times a year in different parts of Stanly County.
