CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a pedestrian was hit and killed Sunday afternoon in South End.
Investigators say Kelli Putnam, 28, was walking on a sidewalk on South Boulevard when she stepped off the sidewalk and was struck by a vehicle.
The driver, Gregory Wheeling, has been charged with driving while impaired and aggravated felony death by vehicle.
Police say speed and alcohol were both contributing factors in this accident.
A judge has set Wheeling’s bond at $100,000. His next court dates are set for Jan. 27 for a bond hearing and Feb. 8 for a probable cause hearing.
