State of the City: More Office, Hotel, Retail Space in Center City
CHARLOTTE, NC– More office space, more hotel rooms, more retail headed for Center City. Charlotte Center City Partners released its sixth annual State of the City report Wednesday.
It shows big moves in all classes of real estate, including a 15 percent increase in office space and, when what is planned and under construction is completed, a 46 percent increase in hotel rooms. That means greater potential to host big events like the Super Bowl.
“It’s a big move,” said Michael Smith, President of CCP. “It gets us up into the high 6,000s, about 7,000 rooms and, you’re right, it puts us in a spot where we can compete for larger conventions. It’s a lot of newer rooms, recently renovated, so it makes us a better hospitality destination.”
Smith also says it’ll be another ten years of work before Center City is a complete place for retail, but he’s pleased with breakthrough moments like the new Whole Foods in uptown, the Anthropologie store in South End and the BJ’s at the Metropolitan.
