CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) – Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera ruled Jared Allen out for Sunday’s NFC Championship against Arizona.
“Let’s be honest, that’s who the young man is,” Rivera said. “I’m not going to say this is one of those ones where you have to save him from himself. But to a degree, I think there is a little bit of truth in that. He’s such a competitor. He’s such a warrior. I didn’t do this lightly. I really thought about it from the time I found out about the injury. I tried to weigh all the information I got.”
Allen is attempting to play on a broken foot. Allen did not agree with the coach’s decision to sit him but holds out hope to play in the Super Bowl.
Allen currently is the active sack leader in the NFL. He has two sacks as a member of Carolina’s defensive line since being traded from Chicago however none since week eight.
