22 Charged in Federal Drug Raid

CHARLOTTE, NC — 22 people are now facing 84 counts of federal and state drug charges.Β They were arrested following a joint operation between CMPD, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The operation began in June to stop drug dealers that were taking over the Belmont neighborhood in east Charlotte.Β Investigators say that drug activity led to more violent crime.

“I’ve never seen a drug dealer who wasn’t willing to use violence to protect his turf,” said U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose. “I’ve never seen a drug dealer who wasn’t willing to use violence to protect his product.”

And more arrests could come.Β The FBIΒ says it’s still searching for six suspects wanted on federal drug warrants related to Wednesday’sΒ raid.
