The government wants adults to undergo mandatory screening for depression. Depression affects about one in ten Americans, and that’s one of the reasons the government is recommending those screenings.

Under the new guidelines issued Tuesday by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, all adults, including pregnant women and new mothers, should be screened for depression as a routine part of health care. The advisory panel says the screening could be as simple as answering two questions on a form before a patient goes in to see their doctor.
