After a soap opera season full of dancing and drama, quarterback Cam Newton is addressing his critics head on.

During a news conference Wednesday with the local media, the star QB suggested for the first time that race may play a factor in why he’s become such a polarizing player.

With a record-breaking season and a growing campaign for the league’s MVP, Newton says he refuses to change his personality both on and off the field. Panthers head coach Ron Rivera agrees.
