Winthrop Wins Seventh Straight, 87-77, over Radford

Eagles sit on top of the Big South Standings as the calendar is set to turn to February.
STAFF REPORTS — Winthrop’s Jimmy Gaving scored a game-high 29 points, including 23 in the first half, as the Eagles downed Radford, 87-77, Saturday afternoon at Winthrop Coliseum.

The win improves Winthrop to 16-6 on the year overall and has now won six straight league games to improve its conference mark to 8-3. Winthrop shot 50 percent from the floor for the third straight game and the seventh time in the last eight games. The Eagles attempted 40 free throws in the game, finishing 73 percent from the line.Winthrop will look to extend its winning streak on Tuesday, Feb. 2 when it travels to Lynchburg, VA to take on Liberty at 7 p.m.
