UPDATE: Police have charged 29-year-old Labaron McCain with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in the shooting in uptown Charlotte Sunday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating an early morning homicide in uptown.
Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service around 2:40 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived they found 29-year-old Clavis Reliford suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased on scene by medic.
Police say that initial information gathered on scene indicates that this was not a random act of violence and that the shooter and victim were in an altercation that led up to the shooting.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
