Former assistant fire chief charged with embezzlement

LINCONTON, N.C. — A former assistant Lincolnton Fire chief has been charged with nine counts of embezzlement.

SBI Agents secured and served indictments on William Fortenberry on Monday. Fortenberry was charged with four counts of embezzlement regarding the Burned Children’s Fund and five counts of embezzlement related to Pisgah United Methodist Church.

Fortenberry was placed in the Lincoln County jail under a $36,000 secured bond.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
