Teen Sentenced For Starting Mobile Home Fire That Killed His Half-Brother

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Jacob “Matt” Morgan has been sentenced to 15 years after being charged with arson and the death of his 14-month-old half brother back in March 2015.

Morgan, 17, pleaded guilty in court today to charges of Involuntary Manslaughter, Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child, and 3rd Degree Arson. Under a plea agreement he will serve consecutive sentences of five and ten years for the manslaughter and unlawful conduct, plus five years probation for the arson. If Morgan violates probation he will receive an additional 15 years sentence.

Morgan was arrested on March 10, 2015 for setting fire to his home on March 6th at the Apple Valley Mobile Home Park in Rock Hill. His 14-month-old half brother, Joshua Hill, was killed in the fire.

Police originally charged Morgan with murder and First Degree Arson following the incident.
