Man Accused of Killing Wheelchair-Bound Mother

LANCASTER, SC — A Lancaster man is locked up, accused of killing his wheelchair bound mother, then trying to get cash from her bank account.

Deputies arrested Robert Hypes on Wednesday after employees at a bank in Kershaw reported strange man asking about Carolyn Taurino’s account. Deputies caught up with Hypes, and learned he’s Taurino’s son.

Family members hadn’t heard from her in a while. Investigators went to the house the two shared on Flat Creek Road and found Taurino’s decomposing body. She had been shot several times.
