Warrants Issued for Driver in Chester Hit and Run

CHESTER COUNTY, SC — Officials have issued warrants for a man believed to be responsible for the fatal hit and run in Chester County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has issued warrants for Stevie Breland, 57, of Charleston. Breland is believed to be driver of a purple commercial vehicle that caused the accident.

The accident happened around 3:45am Monday morning on I-77 north near mile marker 59. A tractor trailer rear ended another vehicle causing it to run off the road and flip, but then kept going.

The driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old Christopher Pringle, was injured in the accident and taken to CMC Main. The passenger, 49-year-old Flora Ellenburg, was thrown out of the SUV, and pronounced dead on the scene from head injuries.

Breland is currently in the Charleston County detention center on unrelated charges. He will be transferred to SCHP after those matters are finished in Charleston.
