NORTH CAROLINA — Daimler Trucks North America has announced that it will lay off around 700 employees at its Mt. Holly plant and 550 employees at its Cleveland plant.

Employees at the Mt. Holly and Cleveland plants were notified in Town Hall meetings yesterday and today. The last day of work for all employees affected by this announcement will be Friday.
As of February 22nd, the Mt. Holly Truck Manufacturing Plant will be reduced from 2,150 to 1,450 employees, with plant operations scaled back to two full shifts per day. The Cleveland Truck Manufacturing Plant will be reduced from 2,150 to 1,600 employees, with plant production scheduled at one full shift per day.
DTNA says the layoffs are in response to a decrease in orders and a diminished build rate, and are expected to be temporary.
