Rezoning Proposal Could Mean Changes For Church

CHARLOTTE, NC– A rezoning proposal up for discussion tonight could mean big changes in Southpark.

Tonight, Charlotte City Council members debated a plan that would rezone the property Sharon United Methodist Church sits on. That’s at the corner of Morrison Boulevard and Sharon Road, across from the mall.

The rezoning proposal would let a Charlotte developer put apartments, a hotel, plus office and retail space on the seven acre lot. The Church would stay on the property as well.

Reverend Kyle Thomspon says, “Our church’s vision is to be the spiritual crossroads of the Southpark community. We’re excited about the opportunity to do a mixed-use development with the church as the anchor, to be a literal crossroads here. ”

The reverend told us he envisions the campus being a place where people can live, work, go out to eat, and worship.
