Cost of Illegal Chemical Dump Cleanup Could Reach $35M
CHARLOTTE, NC — It could end up costing about $35 million to clean up illegal chemical dumps at two Charlotte wastewater plants. Someone dumped PCBs at Mallard Creek and McAlpine Creek back in February of 2014.
On Monday, Charlotte City Council will be asked to consider a $10 million contract for decontamination services at the Mallard Creek Plant.
Charlotte Water has already spent $10 million cleaning the two sites. It’ll then cost about $15 million more to decontaminate the McAlpine Creek plant.
