CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly is recovering from a successful surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder according to a source close to the team.
Kuechly suffered the injury during the regular season finale against Tampa Bay and played through the pain over the course of the Panthers run to Super Bowl 50. During each of the two playoff wins, Kuechly returned interceptions for touchdowns–the first player in NFL history to accomplish this feat.
The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker’s surgery took place in Charlotte this past week. The Charlotte Observer first reported on Tuesday that Kuechly would need off-season surgery.
Despite missing three regular season games with a concussion, Kuechly led the team with 118 tackles. He also recorded a league high 29 tackles in the postseason.
