Morganton Police Reach Out To Community
MORGANTON, NC– Police in Morganton are working to build stronger relationships in the community by reaching out to local churches.
Members from over 50 congregations have been invited to attend the first Peace Keepers meeting March first.
Officers will discuss church security and how to handle an active shooter situation.
Chief Ronnie Rector of the Morganton Public Safety Department says he sees police and clergy as the peace-keepers in the community.
Rector says, “We would like to develop those relationships. And continue to develop them in an ongoing manner. So that when something horrific does happen in our community, that we know each other, that we can depend on each other, lean on each other.”
The chief says he’d like to hold peace-keeper meetings twice a year. Churches interested in participating can contact the Morganton public safety department.
