Police: Baby Brought to Drug Deal

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Three Albemarle residents were arrested on Wednesday after bringing a 9-month-old baby to a drug deal.

Jacob Hatley, 22, Derek Talbert, 26, and Samantha Beach, 25, were arrested following an undercover operation for possession of more than 28 grams of opiates (Oxycodone). All three were charged with conspiracy to traffick in more than 28 grams of opium/heroin.

Talbert and Beach were additionally charged with misdemeanor child abuse. The child abuse charge was the result of Talbert and Beach bringing their nine-month-old child with them during a drug transaction.

The Rowan County Department of Social Services was made aware of the incident and the child was turned over to a responsible family member.

All three were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
