Pageland Police Walk Off Job After Chief Larry Brown’s Reinstatement

PAGELAND, SC — The Pageland Town Council has called for an emergency meeting Wednesday night after most of the town’s police officers walked off the job.

The meeting will be at the Pageland town hall tonight at 7 p.m.Pageland Police Dept

Officers walked off the job after the council reinstated Pageland Police Chief Larry Brown. That’s according to Chesterfield Sheriff Jay Brooks.

Chief Brown is the subject of a SLED investigation. The town council reinstated Brown Tuesday night, and that’s when most of the town’s police officers refused to come to work.

Sheriff Brooks says only two of the 11 Pageland officers reported for work Wednesday, so Chesterfield sheriff’s deputies are now covering police calls in Pageland. The remaining two officers and some dispatchers working Wednesday say they also will not report to work beginning Monday, March 7. That’s the day Chief Brown is scheduled to return to his position.
