Wait For Gun Permits Is Longer
RALEIGH, NC — If you want a gun permit in North Carolina, you might be waiting for a while. The current wait time in Mecklenburg County is four months.
County officials say they’ve seen a big jump in the number of people applying for permits, since new regulations went into effect back in December.
A new law requires mental health checks for people wanting to buy handguns.
In January, Mecklenburg County saw a nearly 2,000 percent jump in applications, and it doesn’t have the staff to meet the demand with its 14-day deadline.
