HICKORY, N.C.– Hickory Police are looking for a man they say shot a woman early Sunday morning.
Police were called to the area of 3rd Street Northwest and 1st Avenue Northwest around 1:55 am Sunday after reports of a shooting.
When they arrived, officers found 24-year-old Helen Baumer lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police say Baumer was walking with a man when they were confronted by 24-year-old Madison Edward Merola who was armed with a hand gun. During the confrontation Merola shot Baumer.
She was transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Warrants have been issued for Merola for attempted first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with inten to kill inflicting serious injury.
