CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — Kemba Walker is beginning to get some national attention.

Considered a snub, at least locally, for the NBA All-Star game, Walker was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 27.8 points-per-game on way to leading the Hornets to a perfect 4-0 week.

It marks just the sixth time in Charlotte NBA history that a player has earned the award multiple times in the same season.

Walker led the conference in three-point field goals per game (4.0) and also averaged 6.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. Walker shot 53.8% from the field and 51.6% from the three-point line during the week, making him the only player in the Eastern Conference to average at least 25.0 points, while shooting better than 50.0 percent from both the field and three-point range in the week

With 34 points, seven rebounds and six assists vs. Minnesota on March 7, Walker recorded his 11th 30-point game of the season. One game later, he posted 35 points, seven assists and seven rebounds vs. New Orleans on March 9 to record a career-best fourth straight 30-point game, making him just the second player in Charlotte NBA history to post four consecutive 30-point games, along with Glen Rice, who did so two times.

For the season, the Connecticut product is averaging a career-high 21.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.7 steals in 36.0 minutes per game, leading the Hornets in scoring, minutes played and steals. Since Christmas Day, Walker ranks second in the Eastern Conference with 24.3 points per game.
