Presidential race draws voters to polls

“Normally I don’t vote in the primaries,” said Sandra Reaves- Bay of East Charlotte.

All across the city up until the polls closed voters making sure their voice is heard.

“I wanted to show my support to Hillary and this is one way I’m able to get out and have a voice,” said Reaves- Bay.

To West Charlotte, there’s common Pro Hillary – anti-Trump motivation.

“I guess every vote counts, so hopefully vote will count and something will change, hopefully not Trump anyways, we don’t want to see Trump in there,” said Dyshericka Bell of West Charlotte.

But in South Charlotte some credit Trump with high poll numbers and say he has their vote.

“I mean Donald Trump this year numbers are up , there’s more excitement especially on the Republican side,” said Chris Andrews of South Charlotte.

But many republicans say they were equally motivated to vote against Trump.

“I’d like to see our country well respected internationally so I would be concerned if that was the direction we were heading,” said South Charlotte resident, Margo Brinley.

Election officials say the hype and competitive races has certainly brought voters out.

“Rallies recently here in last week various areas around Charlotte area so that’s a great sign, that brings people out,” said Mecklenburg County Election Commission Director, Michael Dickerson.
