CHERAW, SC — Authorities are investigating after a small plane went down Thursday morning near the Pee Dee River in Chesterfield County, SC.
Sheriff Jay Brooks says one person was killed in the crash, which is in a remote, swampy area next to the river and NC Highway 52 near Cheraw. The call came in around 10:15 a.m.
According to the NTSB it was a Rocket II homebuilt aircraft that crashed.
It took several hours to locate debris from the air, and emergency workers in boats arrived on the scene around 12:30 p.m.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
