SWAT Situation in East Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials have identified the suspect after a SWAT standoff in east Charlotte on Friday.

On Friday at approximately 1:15 p.m., Independence Division patrol officers conducted a knock and talk at a residence in the 2200 block of Dion Avenue in reference to a suspect that had outstanding warrants at that location.

Upon arrival the subject barricaded himself inside of the residence and refused to obey orders to come out.

Members of the SWAT Team and Negotiators were activated and responded to the scene, set up a perimeter and made contact with the male subject. Nearby residents were also evacuated as a precaution.

After a standoff with SWAT and speaking with Negotiators, the suspect surrendered himself to officers without further incident. He has been identified as Andre Brooks, 21.

Brooks will be transported to the Independence Division to be interviewed by detectives and then transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
