Deputies were dispatched to a structure fire at 1840 Mangum Drive around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

An investigation revealed that two adult females and one adult male were in the home when the incident occurred. Vernon Dye, 36, allegedly entered the home unannounced and began arguing with his former girlfriend. The second female went to see what was happening and saw Dye strike his former girlfriend with a handgun.

Officials say Dye would not let the occupants leave the home and began splashing gasoline on the females and on the floor before setting the house on fire.  The occupants were able to escape and no one was injured by the fire.

Dye was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including Attempted Murder and Arson.
