Plane Fire At Gastonia Airport Ruled Arson

Police now say that an unknown man set fire to the plane at the Gastonia Airport Wednesday evening.

The plane belonged to a man from Atlanta, Georgia and was valued at around $200,000.

Investigators are searching for the suspect. We will continue to update as more information becomes available.

GASTONIA, NC — Crews from the Union Road Volunteer Fire Department, Gastonia Fire Department, Gastonia PD, and Gastonia EMS responded after a plane caught fire at the Gastonia Airport.

The call came in around 9:21pm Wednesday evening for a single engine plane that had caught fire at the Gastonia Airport.

Officials say the plane was anchored to the tarmac and was engulfed in flames when they arrived. It took crews about 10 minutes to put out the fire using foam extinguishers.

No one was onboard the plane at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

No word yet on what sparked the fire.
