Investigators say the fire was the result of unattended cooking materials that were left in the garage. The damages to the home are estimated to be around $229,000.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person has serious injuries after a 2-alarm fire broke out at a home in south Charlotte.

Charlotte Fire crews were called to the 6300 block of Tripp Place just after 5 p.m. Monday afternoon. Officials say they believe the fire started in the garage.
Two people were in the home when the fire occurred. One of the occupants of the home told authorities he smelled something coming from the garage went to check it out and was overcome by smoke. That person also received third degree burns to his face and hands. He was transported to a nearby hospital to be checked out.
It took about 40 firefighters to contain the fire. At this time we are told the home is a total loss. Officials have not said what caused the fire.
