SC Governor Responds to SC Bathroom Bill

Some lawmakers in South Carolina are trying to pass a bill similar to HB2.

The bill was introduced by Senator Lee Bright, a Republican from Spartanburg.

The bill calls for transgender people to use the restroom based on their biological sex.

Governor Nikki Haley says the bill is unnecessary as the issue is not a problem in the Palmetto State.

“While other states are having this battle this is not a battle that we have seen as needed in south Carolina and it’s not something that we see the citizens are asking for in South Carolina,” said Haley

Because the South Carolina bill was introduced in regular session, it will need to pass through several committees before going to a vote.

HB2 was passed in special session over the course of one day.
