Pope Francis Urges More Acceptance of LGBT Community

A new message from Pope Francis is sending shock waves across the Catholic Church.

In a document released today, the Pope urged priests to be more accepting of gay men and lesbians, divorced Catholics and other people living in what the Church considers “Irregular” situations.

The Pope didn’t change Catholic doctrine on those subjects, but he did say every person, regardless of sexual orientation should be respected.

We asked local Catholics what they thought of the message.

” I think the time has come… We’re all learning that you have to accept different situations. And not be so dogmatic about it.” said St. Peter’s Catholic Church member Pat Kelleher.

The Pope did reiterate that marriage between a man and a woman remains the Catholic ideal.
