12-Year-Old Shot in Gastonia Home Invasion

GASTONIA, NC – A late night home invasion and shooting left a 12-year-old child injured in Gastonia Saturday night.

“I heard a gunshot. Just one,” explains neighbor Diane Morton. She showed us a video she took as police cars raced to the scene.

“Come out here and just like, there’s cops and ambulances and fire trucks and all that,” she says.

Investigators say someone kicked in the front door of a home at the end of Red Tip Lane around 9:00pm.

They didn’t take anything, but a 12-year-old child ended up getting shot in the leg, near the knee. The child was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Neighbors remain shaken up, wondering why someone would shoot a child.

Like other neighbors, Johnny Henson says he wants to know if the victims knew the person who busted in their house.

“You know, what went down. What caused a little kid up here to get shot,” he says.

Police aren’t releasing the child’s name because they’re a minor.
