Baseball in the Family – Seager parents root on three pro ball players
KANNAPOLIS, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — The Seager parents wear their emotions on the sleeves from their Kannapolis home–in front of a televised baseball game.
“Typically, we will watch 340 games in a season,” Jeff Seager said.
And for good reason. Jeff, along with his wife Jody, have three sons who are professional baseball players–two of which are in the major league’s. Their oldest, Kyle, is a gold glove third baseman for Seattle. The youngest, Corey, is starting his first full season as the LA Dodgers’ shortstop. Their middle child, Justin, is working his way up through the Mariners minor league system.
“Every at bat, I’m stressing,” Jody Seager, mother of three, said. “I’m pacing. I’m trying to sit on the couch the same place on the couch from the time before because he got a hit. And they say, “Ma it’s okay its okay. It’s not any easier than when they were playing in little league.”
Mom is superstitious and Dad, a former college baseball player at Fairleigh Dickinson, is proud of the accomplishments of his sons. He says there was a sibling rivalry but it never surrounded around baseball.
“Lots of football right there,” Jeff Seager said as he pointed out to his front yard. “And basketball down there.”
The Seager professional ball players did not get to the pinnacle of the sport by chance or luck. It’s hard work and discipline that continues to pay off at the highest levels.
“They worked hard their whole life at their trade,” Jeff Seager said. “They are very level headed. They act and carry themselves in a very good way. Very proud of them all the way around.”
